ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WSLS 10) - Police have released the name of the Rockbridge County man who went missing about two weeks ago after reportedly falling in to the Maury River.

Police say the man has been identified as Jeffrey Reid, 52, of Buena Vista, Virginia.

Waylon Miller, an investigator for Buena Vista Police, says this was a tragic accident and no foul play was involved. They are also no longer conducting a "hard search" of the area.

Miller says at this point nothing really can be done.

Rescue teams search for man missing in the Maury River in Buena Vista

As we've reported, Reid was went missing around 9 p.m. Friday, April 10 after he and another man were attempting to cross the river on foot. The incident happened in Buena Vista near 21st street behind the hematite plant. The river is known to be pretty deep and can go as far as 20-25 feet.

Searched teams looked for Reid on and off for days, as weather deterred their search efforts. As the days passed the search became a 'recovery effort'. Dive teams looked in an area where dogs last traced the man's scent.
