Co-workers remember veteran country deejay Swifty

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Star Country 94.9 listeners are remembering a long-time voice on the radio.

George Gillock, known to fans as "Swifty," passed away this week at 73 after battling cancer.

"Swifty" worked in local radio for 40 years and was the Program Director at WSLC-AM 610 back when "King George" was on the air.

Most recently, "Swifty" deejayed early mornings and Sunday evenings.

"That sound, the George Gillock sound, the "Swifty" sound, I don't know that you'll ever capture again in this market," said Brett Sharp, WSLC, Program Director.

Sharp says "Swifty" was a veteran of the business.

He was the only deejay in the building to have played songs on air using vinyl records.
