AMHERST, Va. (AP) - Fifty-six Sweet Briar College faculty members have filed a lawsuit challenging plans to close the college and seeking $44 million in damages.
According to the Associated Press, the complaint was filed Friday in Amherst County Circuit Court. It claims that the financial crisis cited by the Sweet Briar board when it voted to close the private women's college doesn't exist.

This is the third lawsuit seeking to stop the closure. The others were filed by Ellen Bowyer, the Amherst County attorney, and by a group of parents, students and alumnae.
In the lawsuit by Bowyer, a judge has issued a 60-day injunction barring the school from spending any charitable contributions on the closure.
