Virginia Tech junior Samyak Singh was born in Nepal and had a hard time contacting his extended family.

He was shocked to learn so many people died in the earthquake.

"I thought oh my God, this is a pretty big deal,"  Singh said.

Singh said it was a big deal because the last time an earthquake hit was 1934.

"Now we have ten to twelve stories that or higher and if those buildings came falling down the people inside would probably be trapped for a long time and that was a scary feeling," Singh said.

Singh said he plans to go on social media to raise money for the earthquake victims.
