ROANOKE (WSLS 10) One lucky student in the Roanoke Valley won a brand new car!

Rachel Dix from Salem High School won a new 2015 Nissan.

It's part of the Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition's annual after prom grand finale.

Students had a chance to win small prizes at Tanglewood Mall this afternoon.

Organizers say the purpose of the event is to keep kids safe after prom.

Those who qualified, by staying at their prom until it ended, had a chance to win a new nissan versa.

Organizers say they're glad to see students wanting to stay safe.

"I always appreciate the kids who stay their prom to the very end, who stay alcohol and drug free and also for the folks in each school who coordinate the after prom parties it's great they get out and understand the importance of the event," Kathleen Sullivan, RAYSAC Director said.
