WSLS 10 Shred-A-Thon wraps up spring events at Martinsville Speedway

(WSLS 10) - Identity theft is a growing issue. Throughout the month of May, WSLS 10 and Kodiak Shredding teamed up to help fight it.

Shredding is one easy way residents can help protect their identity from being stolen, and these events can save folks some money too.

At WSLS 10's first event on April 27 located at Schewel's Furniture in Lynchburg 19,000 pounds of paper were safely shredded! The Christiansburg location nearly doubled the total pounds of paperwork brought in at a previous shred event last year.

And last week at Roanoke's event located at Shively Electric 175,000 lbs in documents were shredded!  Powell's Idealease even donated a 53 ft tractor trailer just for the occasion.

Anything you bring to the designated location will be shredded for free.

Did you know...

One ton of recycled paper saves 7,000 gallons of water, 4,100 kilowatts of electricity, 60 pounds of air pollution, 17 trees, three cubic yards of landfill, and two gallons of oil?
