Wise woman, behind Facebook post shared across country, faces same charges as ex
WJHL Staff – WISE COUNTY (WJHL) – According to the Wise County Commonwealth's Attorney, a woman who posted a photo of herself online, appearing to have been beaten is facing the same charges as her ex-husband.
Wise County Commonwealth's Attorney Michael Abbott said the incident between Lora Baker and her ex-husband, Anthony Phipps, happened earlier in July.
On July 6, Baker posted two photos of herself, which appeared that she was bloodied and bruised. On the post she wrote, "(Phipps) brutally attacked me." Baker's photos have been shared thousands of times. Her photo was shared across the country.
Wise Police Chief Tony Bates said he received calls from around the country concerning this case. Abbott said he could not go into detail about the case, but said Baker and Phipps both face charges of assault and battery.
Abbott said Baker has a court order to stay away from Phipps. Baker was also served with a "do not trespass" notice on Phipps' property.
Abbott said,"it is our responsibility to place the proper charges and to make sure justice is done." He continued, "we can't fight Facebook. We have to leave it up to the court system."
Abbott said the two will be in court on August 6.
