LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - A man who escaped a detective - after he was handcuffed - turned himself in to Lynchburg police Tuesday.

Pait was transported to the Magistrate's Office where he was served with his warrants. He was held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg.

Pait's charges now include petit larceny, obtaining money by false pretenses, escaping custody, assault on a police officer and intentionally preventing a law-enforcement officer from lawfully arresting the accused.

Lynchburg police said a detective was assaulted while trying to arrest a wanted man, 26-year-old Daniel C. Pait, at Timbrook Square Shopping Center on Timberlake Road on outstanding larceny warrants. Pait managed to escape during the arrest.

The detective involved was not injured. Officers from the Campbell County Sheriff's Office, the Lynchburg Police Department and Virginia State Police searched for Pait, but were unable to find him.
