HENRICO - What would you do if you found thousands of dollars in your box of chicken? A local man says that's exactly what happened to him at the Bojangles' on Nine Mile Road.
James "JJ" Minor had to document his drive-thru surprise.
"So this is really interesting," said Minor in a cell phone video. "They put a bunch of cash and SunTrust deposit slips in my box [of chicken]. If I was a bad person, I wouldn't turn this stuff in, but I'm going to do what's right and turn it in."
Minor says he didn't know what to think.
"I immediately rushed inside the Bojangles' and asked for a manager," said Minor. "And I asked the manager, 'Can you please tell me what is going on? Is this a set up?'"
Minor says the box contained about $4,500 in cash. He returned the money, and he says he was offered another meal... a Tailgate Special to be exact.
"Like I really need a Tailgate Special!" said Minor with a smile.
All jokes aside, Minor says the manager's response put a bad tad taste in his mouth.
"Suppose I would have drove off or something? What would have happened?" Minor asked. "He looked at me and he said, 'We would have called the authorities on you.' As if I'm the one who is in the wrong! I'm doing the right thing by bringing you the money back and probably helping save your job."
Bojangles' released the following statement:
"The unfortunate mistake you've described did take place at our location on South Laburnum Avenue on July 15th at approximately 3:30 p.m. Following a thorough investigation and conversations between our Director of Operations and Mr. Minor, we are reviewing some of our internal procedures to ensure something like this doesn't happen again.
"We are, of course, very thankful to Mr. Minor for bringing the incident to our attention and returning the money to us. To show our gratitude and great appreciation for his genuine act of kindness, we have offered Mr. Minor a $100 Bojangles' gift card."
