Power restored for Appalachian Customers in Southwest Virginia

(WSLS 10) - Thousands of Appalachian Power customers - primarily located in downtown Roanoke - were in the dark Monday.

At one point, almost 3,00 customer were without power in downtown Roanoke. Currently, 109 customers are without electricity in Campbell County.

Spokesperson Teresa Hall (Corporate Communications) with AEP said crews arrived at the substation located on Walnut Avenue Monday morning.

Hall said the outage was caused by an equipment failure at the substation. She could not say whether it was heat related or not.

As of 2:30 p.m., the company's website showed no active outages.
