Montgomery Co. school bus rear-ended; woman arrested for texting while driving

MONTGOMERY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A Christiansburg woman is facing multiple charges after police say she rear-ended a local school bus Friday morning.

Police said a Montgomery County school bus was rear-ended at 7:15 a.m. Friday while stopping for a railroad crossing on North Franklin Street - just north of the Cambria Street intersection.

Patricia R. Zavala, 27, of Christiansburg, Va., was traveling behind the bus when she rear-ended it with her car.

Officers say the school bus was carrying 34 middle and high school-aged students. No one was hurt during the incident.

Zavala was taken to LewisGale Hospital Montgomery for minor injuries. She has been charged with following too closely and texting while driving.

A second bus was dispatched to pick up the students from the scene.
