Woman teaching free martial arts class after attack on Roanoke Greenway

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A Roanoke woman is taking action this weekend to make sure community members are prepared to protect themselves.

Tiffany Lee has been training under Systema, a Russian style of martial arts for 22 years.

Lee said she felt compelled to show everyone the proper technique to get away in case of an emergency, especially after seeing news reports about a woman being attacked on the Greenway.

"I hope they take away some basic and fundamental skills, obviously there's so much we can get into, but these fundamental skills are something people can use and practice and develop on their own," explained Lee.

Lee will offer a free class from 9:00-10:30 Saturday morning at Fishburn Park in Roanoke.

Roanoke police said the suspect in the Greenway incident, Alexander Billow, 31, turned himself in and is charged with abduction by force.
