ROANOKE (WSLS) - A local group of anglers is taking their pastime and turning it into a passion that helps others.

The Southern Blue Ridge Kayak Anglers are hitting the water in a first ever tournament to raise money for Carilion Clinic's Children's Hospital.

The money will go specifically to the oncology unit.

"For me personally I have known a couple children that have suffered and battled cancer and it's just kind of something that has touched me and just felt that was kind of where we could put our footprint and help out," explained Mark Melius, a group member.

The group formed last year and while they've taken part in a number of tournaments across the region this is the first charity tournament they've hosted.

If you're interested in taking part log on August 15th on to http://www.southernblueridgekayakanglers.com/2015-fishing-for-a-kids-cure.html for more details.
