Candlelight vigil held for murdered Lynchburg teen
LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Lynchburg police continue to investigate the shooting death of a 16-year-old.
Family members identified the victim as Jessie Paige.
"My mom is hurt because she has to bury her youngest son," said Rico Ellis, Jessie's older brother.
Close to 75 people gathered for a candlelight vigil on Monday night. The shooting took place a few blocks away from Jessie's home. As loved ones shared stories about Jessie, the investigation into his death continued.
Crime tape, blood stains and bullet holes remained at the scene of the shootings. Police said three people were shot. Two survived but not Jessie. Some said he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Friends said Monday should have been the 16-year-old's first day at Heritage High School. Students said the school held a moment of silence to remember Jessie.
"It was shocking to a lot of people," said Malaysia Haythe, a Heritage High School student. "Those close to him were heartbroken."
As friends and family cope with the tragic loss, they said they'll hold each other close and cherish the good times.
"I'd tell him I love him and he will always be here through me," said Ellis.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.
