LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Lynchburg police asked for the public's help - to find the person who shot and killed 16-year-old Jessie Paige over the weekend.

Police said Tuesday the shooting was likely related to drugs or gangs. It is one of six such incidents in Lynchburg this year.

Police said they are trying to increase patrols in that area of Lynchburg. The incidents each happened just walking distance from each other.

Investigators said there are around 20 known gangs in Lynchburg. They were unabled to say if Jessie Paige was involved with a gang or if he was related to any of the previous shooting incidents.

Meanwhile, violent crimes - including assaults, homicides and robberies - were down about six-percent from 2014 in Lynchburg.

Making the search for a suspect more frustrating, investigators said the public is not cooperating. Jessie Paige's older brother, Onrico Ellis, said he understands why people aren't willing to come forward.

"I'm not frustrated cause it's the way of life. Cause there's a street code; you have to follow one. I know. I can't be mad at nobody. They're just scared," Ellis explained.
