Police make arrest after shots fired overnight on VCU's campus

WRIC – RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — VCU police have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for firing a gun on the school's campus Tuesday morning.

18-year-old Felix C. Thompson Jr. was charged with brandishing a firearm and willful discharge of a firearm in public after officers responded to a report of shots fired around 3:13 a.m. Tuesday. Multiple witnesses in the area reported seeing three men in a red Mini Cooper and shots fired from the vehicle.

Thompson fired the gun into the air. There were no reported injuries.

Police have identified the other two suspects in connection to the incident and say none of them are associated with VCU.

Authorities used multiple alert systems to notify the VCU community about the shooting. A siren was activated and text messages were sent alerting students to stay indoors after the incident as police investigated.
