FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A former University of Mary Washington student is scheduled to be arraigned on charges he killed a fellow student and housemate.

Steven Briel is due in Fredericksburg Circuit Court on Tuesday to be formally charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of 20-year-old Grace Rebecca Mann of McLean.

Briel is accused in the April slaying of Mann, who was found in the Fredericksburg house they shared with two other housemates. At a hearing in June, the housemates testified that Briel told them he and Mann had a physical confrontation.

The housemates said they found Mann with a plastic bag over her head and plastic bags stuffed in her mouth.

Mann's slaying has attracted heightened attention because Mary Washington has been accused of gender bias by campus feminists.
