ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Crews working on the new 581 interchange near Valley View Mall have completed more than half of the project's construction.
The Virginia Department of Transportation says its building a new diverging diamond interchange, the second of its kind in Virginia.
The project is expected to wrap up in fall of 2016.
VDOT Spokesperson, Jason Bond, said crews are ahead of schedule and if work continues at the current pace, construction could wrap up sooner.
In the next few months, crews will be installing more sound barriers and will work on the ramps and roadway. More lane closures could occur as a result.
