Virginia Science Festival opens September 26 in Roanoke

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Make plans to enjoy the 2nd Annual Virginia Science Festival, featuring hundreds of science exhibits and events during the month of October throughout Virginia, including the big kickoff in downtown Roanoke on Saturday, September 26 from 10 am - 4 pm.

Organizers say the Roanoke festival day on Sept. 26 extends from the Jefferson College of Health Sciences through Market Plaza, Science Museum, Center in the Square atrium, Roanoke Market Building, the Wells Fargo Lawn, and Taubman Museum of Art.

Featured activities include:

Helicopter landing at Virginia Museum of Transportation 

Operating Room Experience at Jefferson College of Health Sciences 

NASA in the City Market Building 

Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute at Taubman Museum of Art 

Roanoke Fire-EMS Fire Safety House

Blue Ridge Soaring Society sailplane and a soaring simulator  

Mill Mountain Zoo animals

Organizers say the Virginia Science Festival brings together the worlds of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM).

At the Virginia Science Festival in Roanoke, thousands of families will come face-to-face with amazing research and technical achievements from Virginia's educational, non-profit and for-profit institutions, and enjoy hands-on experiences designed to inspire all ages about the wonders of science.

The honorary co-chairmen of the festival are U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. There will be independent events all over the state beginning September 26 and ending October 30.
