14-year-old driver, 2 others flown to the hospital following serious rollover crash in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Three teenagers were flown to the hospital Sunday following a serious rollover accident along Route 221 in Carroll County.

Multiple units responded to the single-vehicle crash at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30 on Route 221, 4/10's of a mile north of Poplar Hill Road.

Virginia State Police say a 1997 Ford Ranger pick-up was travelling south when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned, ejecting three people.


At this time, the driver of the vehicle is believed to be a 14-year old female, and the passengers were a 15 year-old female and a 17 year-old male.

All three were transported to a landing zone at Hillsville Elementary School and were airlifted by three separate helicopters to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., with life-threatening injuries.

Hillsville Fire, Carroll Fire & Rescue, and Carroll Sheriff's Department assisted.

Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
