ROANOKE (WSLS 10) – Local researchers are working to determine how effective the use of social media can be in treating addiction.
Led by Professor Warren Bickel, a team of scientists at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute is studying the subject.
The group has created a new social media platform called "Interactome".
Participants will log on to the site and share their success with recovery. The hope is that seeing peers succeed will encourage those struggling with addiction to stay sober.
About 250 people are needed for the study. Participants can be at any stage of recovery. The study is limited to those living in the United States that are recovering from alcohol, opiate, or stimulant addictions.
