First responders recognized for saving three-year-old's life

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - First responders were recognized over the weekend after saving a three-year-old's life last year in a car crash.

The incident happened in the Burnt Chimney area in September.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Burnt Chimney Volunteer Fire Department, dispatchers, state police, and Carilion's Lifeguard Flight Team all worked together.

Carilion Clinic honored their heroic efforts Saturday night by giving them the Carol M. Gilbert Award.

"We look back on the calls from the year before and look for the best examples of communication, leadership, safety," says Susan Smith, Carilion Clinic Life-Guard. "All of those types of things."
