Bedford Co. law enforcement seize largest amount of hashish in county's history

BEDFORD COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The largest seizure of hashish in Bedford County's history is now in law enforcement's hands.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office said, with the help of the Lynchburg Police Department, officers seized 18 pounds of marijuana and 15 pounds of hashish on September 2 from a location on Route 501 in the Big Island area.

Street value of the drugs was estimated between $375,000 and $400,000.

Deputies said 41-year-old Thomas Castle was arrested in the case. He was driving a 1993 Dodge Truck with a 5th wheel, Cougar camper attached. He was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. A $200,000 bond was sent for Castle on September 23. He remains in jail.

The drug seizure was held at the  Regional Lab in Roanoke for evaluation and testing.
