WYTHEVILLE (WSLS 10) - More than 25 people were arrested Thursday, as police from five different agencies came together for a drug round-up.
This follows a special grand jury session on Monday.
The Wythe County Sheriff's Office teamed up with law enforcement in the area for one of the biggest drug round ups in the last 20 years. Dozens of Wythe County residents heard knocks on their doors today.
More than 40 officers went to homes, places of business and even store parking lots to serve 80 people with nearly 200 drug indictments. Investigators said they've called it "operation bad medicine."
he majority of these indictments were for drugs like methamphetine and prescription pills. Wythe County's Commonwealth Attorney, Jerry Mabe said meth is a widespread problem affecting the workforce and the ability for employers to hire competent people.
Thursday's drug bust was the result of almost two years of work and a strategically scheduled grand jury session, but there will be no breaks for the men and women in uniform.
Wythe County Sheriff Keith Dunagan explained, "That's not going to stop today because we've been able to make a bunch of arrests. We just continue to go on."
Sheriff Dunagan said completing these round ups can take days or sometimes even weeks.
