ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - On Sunday, Gil Harrington, the mother of Morgan Harrington, shared her reaction after learning Jesse Matthew was sentenced for three consecutive life terms.
A judge sentenced the Charlottesville man Friday in connection to a 2005 sexual assault in Fairfax, Virginia. Matthew was found guilty of attempted capital murder and sexual assault.
Matthew also faces charges in connection to the 2009 killing of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington as well as the murder of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham.
Gil Harrington said she is still processing the recent verdict.
"I'm not happy about the sentence, how could you be happy there were no winners in that courtroom...RG lost her innocence, we lost our daughter Morgan, the Grahams' lost Hannah, Jesse family lost him, he lost his freedom its lost, lost, lost all around," Harrington said.
Matthew will be back in court in July for the murder of Hannah Graham.
His trial for the Morgan Harrington case is set to begin in October 2016.
