BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Virginia Tech sophomore hit while riding his bicycle Thursday morning died from his injuries later this afternoon.

Blacksburg police said the cyclist, Mark Alexander Slough, 19, of Springfield, was hit around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8 at the intersection of Sunridge Drive and Toms Creek Road.

Officers believe Slough was trying to turn onto Toms Creek from Sunridge Drive when he was hit by a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Toms Creek Road.

Slough died as a result of his injuries around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses said a group of seven people helped lift the vehicle off of the teen, whose head was reportedly stuck under a tire. They said Slough was asked if he could "wiggle his toes," and he could.

Slough was transported to Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery by Blacksburg Rescue. Due to the nature of his injuries, he was then transferred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Police said no charges were immediately filed. The investigation is ongoing.
