CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - Passenger rail service in the New River Valley is now closer to becoming a reality.

Rail leaders are nearing completion of a 12-month research project which includes a resident survey.

So far, more than 6,000 people from across Virginia have responded, with 95 percent saying they are likely or very likely to use the service.

Possible station locations have been narrowed down from 29 to three, two in Christiansburg and one in Radford.

The resident survey closes October 19.
