Female driver charged after crash that killed Franklin Co. teacher

FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A North Carolina woman was charged after Virginia State Police say her vehicle collided with that of a Rocky Mount third grade teacher, killing her.

VSP said the crash on Route 220, just south of Route 919, involved a Dodge SUV driven by 56-year-old Lesley Wildasin of Edin, N.C. and a Nissan Versa driven by 49-year-old Dona Minnick of Franklin County.

Officers said Minnick was driving the Versa north on 220 when Wildasin's Dodge, traveling south, crossed the median and hit Minnick head-on. Dona Minnick died at the scene.

Wildasin was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was charged with reckless driving.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.
