Uranium mining case heads to court

(WSLS 10) - A mining company's quest to tap a rich deposit of uranium in southside is headed to a federal courtroom.

Virginia Uranium will be in court Friday in Danville for pretrial motions.

The company is suing several state leaders. They hope to get the decades long ban on uranium mining overturned.

Opponents cite concerns about health and drinking water - but the company says those fears are unfounded.

One of the world's largest uranium finds is in Pittsylvania County.
