Hokies headed to Independence Bowl

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Virginia Tech Hokies are bowl bound! It was announced Sunday that Virginia Tech(6-6, ACC) will take on Tulsa (6-6, AAC) in the Independence Bowl.

The game will take place Dec. 26, 5:45 p.m. EST in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The Hokies won three of their final four games to become bowl eligible. This will be coach Frank Beamer's final game after 29 seasons leading the program. The Golden Hurricane have the 11th ranked passing offense in the nation that averages nearly 330 yards per game.

According to the Associated Press, the last time the teams matched up was Sept. 9, 1978 - Tulsa 35, Virginia Tech 33

BOWL HISTORY

Tulsa: Tulsa is in its first bowl since 2012. It's the Golden Hurricane's first time in Independence Bowl since 1989.

Virginia Tech: The Hokies are playing their 23rd straight bowl. They've in the Independence Bowl for the third time - first since 1993.
