CNN – MONETA (CNN) - We are hearing from the sole survivor of the Smith Mountain Lake shooting that occurred on live television. Vicki Gardner was being interviewed back in August when a man opened fire.
Gardner has now finished with surgeries for her injuries.

She tells CNN's Brian Stelter that she hopes to return to work as a chamber of commerce leader next month.
"Well, we are still working through that. I'm still in, somewhat, the healing process." says Gardner. "Oh, I'll be back! Of course I'll be back. I am so looking forward to it."
Gardner also says she is not going to let herself be defined by the worst moment of her life. She says the shooting does not haunt her, and she wakes up every morning enthusiastic about what's ahead.
