(WSLS 10) - It's New Year's Eve and many of us will celebrate the new year tonight. Roanoke Police and the Roanoke Prevention Alliance remind you to designate a sober driver to get you home safely after the celebration. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, crashes involving alcohol increase ten percent between Christmas and New Year's Day. Last year, on person died every 57 minutes because of a drunk driver.
Roanoke's Market Square hosts Shake It 2016. It's a New Year's Eve Bash that gets you into activities in the Market Building and Center in the Square. Tickets get you into the entertainment as well as the Science and Pinball Museums and the Butterfly Garden.
Ring in the new year in Roanoke at the Big Lick Downtown Countdown. The event takes place on Franklin Road and Jefferson Street. There will be food trucks and entertainment with the star rising at midnight to start 2016.
The Robert E. Lee Hotel in Lexington hosts the Great Gatsby New Year's Even Celebration with live music, drink and food. Stick around for the ball drop at midnight and a toast. Tickets start at $65.
Bring in 2016 at Natural Bridge. There will be three themed event rooms, including the 80s, Rock and Roll and Bluegrass, with music, food and cash bars. A midnight breakfast buffet and overnight packages are available.
