ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Organizers of a first-time New Year's Eve celebration in downtown Roanoke are planning for next year's event.
Shake It! 2016 turned out to be a huge success, raising $55,000.
All of the money will go to nearly 20 local non-profits and foundations.
"The countdown at midnight was so inspirational. We had people of all ages, all races, all ethnicities, all gathered together in Market Square and that was the moment I looked around and I knew that we had done something good," Michelle Dykstra said, City Market Building Director.
Dykstra says Shake It! has room for growth.
Market Square can hold up to 3,000 people about 1,200 showed last week.
