However, it is not just the big Hollywood names gaining recognition.

Crossing Streets, a movie shot entirely in Roanoke about a Roanoke police officer, has entered six film festivals in four states since it debuted at the Grandin Theatre in May.

It has won several awards so far and is scheduled to be available on DVD at Walmart stores worldwide by late spring.

"Our goal is to be able to provide more opportunities for local talent, local crew to be able to work in a sustainable way in Roanoke or the surrounding area," said Marc Hutchins, the producer of Crossing Streets.

Another of Hutchins' films shot in 2014 in Vinton and Roanoke County is scheduled to premier in February.
