Police identify patient shot at Lynchburg General Hospital

LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Lynchburg police release the identity of a patient shot by a security officer at Centra's Lynchburg General Hospital on Monday.

Police say 28-year-old Jonathan Warner of Amherst attacked security officer, Wes Gillespie, in the Dillard Building.

During the struggle, Warner took Gillespie's taser and fired it, according to police. The suspect proceeded to assault Gillespie and another employee before Gillespie shot him.

On Monday, Warner was listed in critical condition.

The Lynchburg Police Department is providing all information from this investigation to the Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney. Once the investigation is complete, police say, the Commonwealth's Attorney will issue a written opinion.
