Areva plans for layoffs

WSLS Staff – LYNCHBURG (WSLS10) - Nuclear company Areva announced it will be laying off about 90 jobs nationwide. The company says about 50% of those layoffs will be from the Lynchburg area.

The company says the affected workers have been offered part-time employment, as well as severance packages. Their last day is expected to be January 31st.

Areva says the change is the result of an uncertain market. However, should the need for nuclear power in the region increase, the facility might look to hire more employees.
