Danville City Council to consider removing White Mill Dam
DANVILLE (WSLS10) - The Dan River in Danville could soon have one less dam.
City council will consider a proposal at it's next work session on Feb. 2nd to remove the dam near the White Mill building.
According to the city's website, the project would cost more than $100,000. The goal would be to have the concrete dam completely removed by August.
The city is concerned leaving the dam would be a safety risk as the area becomes more populated. The city also points out removing the dam would make the river more navigable and would lower the flood plain along the riverfront.
No votes will be taken at Tuesday's work session.
