ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Thanks to a generous grant from PetSmart Charities, Mountain View humane is helping cat owners fix their furry friends for a fraction of the cost.

This campaign will provide up to 420 spay surgeries for female cats. Normally it cost $58 dollars, but now through February the price dropped to $20. The clinic aims to do 40 surgeries a day.

Clinic management said it's a quick procedure that normally takes up to 13 minutes.

"People often say 'I'm not going to fix my female cat, because she's not going to get out and she's not going to get pregnant'," said The Assistant Director at Mountain View Humane Corrie Prater. "By fixing her you not only eliminate the chance of her getting pregnant, but you eliminate the in heat things they do: the excessive meowing, wanting to escape."

This procedure can also help prevent uterus infections which can be life threatening and cancer.

This non-profit is asking people to call ahead when making an appointment. They are already starting to fill up three weeks out.
