ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A Roanoke family is making a difference hitting the streets to help the homeless.
Dawn Sandoval and her husband started The Least of These ministry.
The couple hits the streets at night to hand out blankets and food.
They target the homeless who don't stay at shelters and sleep in the woods.
"The reality is that a lot of them have mental health issues that prevent them from staying in a shelter environment. Some of them do struggle with addiction and that doesn't make them any less human," explained Dawn.
The idea for The Least of These came about after Dawn and her husband moved to downtown.
"Every day when I would walk to work I would come across these homeless individuals and I just started conversations with them and as things progressed God just laid that on my heart, you know, that they needed to be treated like individuals, they had just your basic needs," said Dawn.
