ROANOKE (WSLS)-- The Class J 611 Locomotive has left the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke and is headed for inspections in Spencer, NC.

Crews were at the VMT before 4 a.m. working to get everything in order on the 611, before the locomotive left the Roanoke Valley just before 6 a.m.

"There's work that needs to be done. Anytime you take your car out on a long trip, you take it into the shop to make sure that everything is good," says Fran Ferguson, the Executive of Development at the Museum of Transportation.

Excursions begin in April and run through early June. Tickets for the round trip excursion out of Roanoke are already on sale for donors. The tickets will be available to the public on Monday, February 15 at 10 a.m. Ferguson says she expects them to sell out within several days.
