BROOKNEAL (WSLS 10) - A fire at the former Dan River plant in Brookneal is under investigation.

The fire started on Thursday at approximately 3:30 p.m.  The building was being demolished when the fire started.

All Campbell County volunteer fire agencies and public safety fire personnel responded to the scene, according to the county's fire marshal, Randall Johnson.

Fire crews managed to get the fire under control on Friday. Crews continued to monitor the site.

"While the facility itself was destroyed, we are grateful that no one was injured," said Tracy Fairchild, Campbell County Director of Public Safety. "The response and support from not only our volunteer agencies, but also the community has been tremendous as crews battled this blaze in bitterly cold temperatures. I'd like to personally thank all of the volunteers, staff, local businesses, and citizens who provided food and other resources for the men and women who braved the elements to keep everyone safe. Again, it demonstrates our community's outstanding collaboration and unwavering dedication to helping others, especially in the midst of emergencies."

No one was hurt.
