Virginia officer killed in the line of duty to be laid to rest

Agawam, Mass. (WSLS 10) - A fallen Virginia police officer will be laid to rest in her hometown today.

On Sunday, police officers and others gathered in Agawam, Mass. Sunday to honor officer Ashley Guindon.

On her first shift, she and two other officers were shot while responding to a domestic dispute in Woodbridge, Va.

Officer Guindon later died from her wounds.

The rookie officer was born in Springfield, Mass. and spent part of her childhood in Agawam.

Her uncle is a detective for the West Springfield Police Department.

Thousands of officers came to pay their respects to their fallen sister.

The Springfield mayor is also asking residents to line the streets to show their respect during the funeral procession.
