FRANKLIN COUNTY (WSLS10) - A local shelter has taken in seven animals that were left without a home after a tornado ripped through Essex County.

Homeowners who lost everything and were unable to further care for their pets surrendered their animals to the Franklin County Humane Society Sunday.

The shelter is now caring for one dog and six cats.

An employee at the shelter, who's from Essex County, heard these animals needed care and wanted to help.

"I just couldn't wait to get them here," said the center's Adoptions Coordinator Jennifer Fleisher. "I couldn't wait for them to be safe, be here with us and give them a new start."

Fleisher told us the cats are looking for barn homes, because they are outside animals.

Workers hope to soon find these pets forever homes. Adoptions range anywhere from $35 to $150. For more information visit: http://plannedpethoodrockymount.com/.
