After a tremendous response, the JRC asked for more funding to expand the program.

Now thanks to local grant funding, its funds available have doubled to $75,000 which opens the program to more people.

President of the JRC Duane Smith says the need for health care among seniors is a nationwide.

"I feel great that we are able to touch the lives of people in Roanoke, but we haven't even scratched the surface. This is a nationwide problem," Smith said.

To apply, there is a $15 application fee. The council says it will be able to help a little more than three hundred seniors.
