Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman continues to oppose an Obama nomination
WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley is digging in on Republicans' decision to block a Supreme Court nomination this year. Grassley says Democrats are only criticizing the strategy to score political points.
The Iowa Republican said Thursday that efforts to change his mind are futile.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has delivered daily speeches on the Senate floor against Grassley. Grassley says that "won't work."
Also Thursday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell defended Grassley, saying he is working hard to "give the people a voice."
Democrats at Thursday's committee meeting blamed Republicans for deciding not to hold hearings or a vote. Some Republicans say they won't even meet with a nominee.
