WAVY Staff – NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Police shot and killed a man in the Bayview section of the city early Friday morning.
The shooting happened around 3:50 a.m., near the intersection of Fisherman's Road and Chesapeake Boulevard. The area was blocked off for several hours as officers investigated the scene.

Police began re-opening those roads around 7:20 a.m. Friday.

Norfolk Police spokeswoman Melinda Wray says two officers attempted to engage a man on Chesapeake Boulevard that they described as a violent, wanted felon.
At some point, shots were fired and the wanted person was killed.
A witness in the area tells 10 On Your Side they heard several gunshots, but did not see anything.
Wray says the man was on foot when he was approached by officers. The man was considered to be armed and dangerous. Police have not said what the man was wanted for.
Police have told 10 On Your Side's Rico Bush that the two officers were wearing body cameras, but could not say if the cameras were turned on.
This is the second deadly shooting incident in Norfolk within 10 hours. Officers found a man dead in the 1000 block of East Ocean View Avenue — less than two miles from this shooting — around 10:30 Thursday night.
The officer involved in this shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete, which is standard practice in a case like this.
