MARTINSVILLE (WSLS10) - Students at Martinsville High School learned how their engineering and robotics skills can be applied to NASCAR.

On Wednesday, Sprint Cup driver Jamie McMurray and Martinsville Speedway owner Clay Campbell visited with the school's robotics team to talk to them about what they're learning.

One student was also chosen to be an honorary crew chief meaning he will get to be alongside McMurray's team when NASCAR comes to Martinsville on April 3.

McMurray said he enjoyed learning about what the kids are doing.

"It's really neat,"  said McMurray. "It's something I would've wanted to be part of when I was in school. It's really cool to see the kids using their heads to build something like that."

McMurray also met the boy's basketball team, which won the Group 2A state championship for the second year in a row.
