During the week-long program, students will learn leadership skills and how to get involved in the community.

This is the first year Averett has hosted the program. For the past seven years, it has been hosted by the chamber of commerce.

The program's coordinator, Alexis Ehrhardt, who is also the executive director of the Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness at Averett University, said she can't wait to start working with the students.

"We talk about service, we talk about communication, we talk about community engagement. The ultimate goal for us is to create future community leaders," she explained.

Students who complete the program will get a $5,000 scholarship to Averett University should they choose to go there.

The deadline to apply is April 4. For more information about the program or to apply, click here.
