DANVILLE (WSLS10) - Danville's courthouse is about to get a security upgrade.
A new vestibule will be built inside the courthouse's main entrance to force people to go to either their left or right when they walk in the door.
An X-ray scanner will also be installed and glass panels will be added to the main doors so people will be more visible coming and going from the courthouse.
Danville Sheriff Mike Mondul said one reason for the changes is because of the increase in weapons being disguised as ordinary objects, such as phones and pens.
"That sort of causes us concern in the law enforcement industry. We've got to stay in front of the problem," Mondul emphasized. "So doing this will help us better check those items and people."
Cell phones will also not be allowed inside the courthouse once the new setup is complete, which Mondul said should happen in the next couple months.
