ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Virginia Senator Mark Warner created legislation that would give the public more control over their congressional district.
The Fair Act would require states to set up independent, bipartisan commissions to draw congressional district maps. Senator Warner said the point is to make sure the people are choosing their politicians, not the other way around.

"Too often it's the politicians who choose their districts through gerrymandering," Warner said. "I've introduced legislation ... that would actually allow people to choose their politicians rather than the politicians choose their voters."
Warner said the commission would be required to ask for public opinion when creating a plan.
